Mario Kart 8 released in 2014 on the Wii U, and featured several 2012 Miis as the staff ghost Miis in this entry of the Mario Kart series. Odd, considering the previous two entries, Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7, both used the Miis of the staff actually racing, and not simply another character's Mii (though, the Miis were hidden for the staff ghost racers in Mario Kart 7 and are thus unused). When Mario Kart 8 received paid DLC in 2014 and 2015, adding new courses, the new staff ghosts reused Mii data files available from the previous non-DLC courses. Interestingly, the Miis used in each course often differ from the game's upgraded Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
