A sequel to the Japan-only game Tomodachi Collection released in April 2013 named Tomodachi Life, where both games are real-time simulation games featuring Miis in apartments where the player plays as some sort of higher being, tending to the Miis' needs and desires, and calming down/cheering up Miis when they get into fights with other Miis or get sad or sick. While the game focused on player-inputted Miis, reading a save file for the game shows there is some sort of unique Mii data present of a malformed Mii data file of the default starter male Mii. Tomodachi Life also allowed users to share specialized QR codes, which would carry extra information from the in-game's Mii editor (stuff like name pronunciations, voice, etc.) and outfits if the QR code and the system scanning it were the same region. Miitopia (3DS) would go on to support Tomodachi Life's specialized QR codes, along with its own.
